Despite contemporary attention from Franklin D. Roosevelt and from Pinkerton Detectives, and more recently from amateur sleuths and the press, the Germond murders case went unsolved until Dr. Cookingham’s investigation. The multiple murders of James (Husted) Germond; his wife, Mabel; and their two children, Bernice and Raymond, at their Dutchess County farm in November 1930 is one of the most famous crimes ever committed in the Hudson Valley.</image:caption>

Schenkman entitled “Patriots and Spies in Revolutionary New York.” Spies! Loyalists! Tories! Conspiracy! Strange messages? Codes in invisible ink? The American Revolution was first and foremost a civil war that tore at the very fabric of families as well as society. Patriots were determined to separate from England; while Loyalists were just as determined to defeat what they saw as a rebellion. Many do not know that during several critical periods the war was almost fatally undermined by English sympathizers or in some cases opportunistic Patriots. Patriots and Spies in Revolutionary New York is a compilation of twelve stories regarding important moments in New York State's history during the American Revolution.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Women and the Vote NYS is honoring local suffragists this election day. To honor the many suffragists who fought for passage of the 19th amendment and beyond, people will visit the grave sites in hometowns across NY state wearing their “I Voted” stickers. Then they’ll take selfies and videos speaking about why the work of women’s suffrage remains so essential. Here in Rockland County, let’s take part in the state-wide celebration! We will meet at the Historical Marker at Oak Hill Cemetery in Nyack, NY on Tuesday, November 3 anytime between 12noon and 3pm. Oak Hill is the burial site of two local suffragists who appear on the women and the vote NY listing: Caroline Lexow Babcock and Lulu Edsall Serven. Hope to see you there!
